Buying Real Estate in Grey and Bruce County
Welcome to our Home
Charming towns, rolling countryside and strong local communities make buying real estate in Grey and Bruce County an easy choice for many of my clients. Spanning from the far east side of Collingwood to the shores of Kincardine, Grey and Bruce counties cover some of the most scenic countryside that Southwestern Ontario has to offer. With a combined population of approximately 174 000, the Grey and Bruce area provides the best of rural living alongside a growing economic sector and all the amenities needed for comfortable living.
As a realtor, I have watched individuals and families in many different seasons of life make Grey Bruce their forever home. Personally, our family lives, plays and grows in Grey Bruce. We currently farm in the Ayton/Durham area and live on the most southern border of Grey County in Mount Forest. I spend many days traveling the roads of Grey and Bruce to show homes and farms to my clients. I can honestly say that the small towns and quiet countryside never fail to bring a sense of peace to hectic days and a feeling of home after time away. It’s truly a privilege to share the place that I raise my family with my clients.
To better introduce you to the place we love, I have put together a few highlights of the Grey Bruce area. If you are interested in learning more, just reach out here.
Agriculture in Grey and Bruce
From small scale hobby farming to large cash crop operations, Grey and Bruce counties are well known for an abundant agriculture industry. Farmtario reports strong yields in recent years have proven land in our area to be comparable to southern counties such as Huron- spanning from Wingham down to Grand Brand. Increasing yields have resulted in increased land prices- however higher inputs and higher interest rates have cooled the market in 2023.
During COVID, the demand for 50 acre farms with a family home was high as people swapped city living for a quieter scene. This market has also softened over the last year, making it an ideal time for buyers looking for a country property. The potential for smaller scale, family owned operations in Grey and Bruce is endless. These 50-100 acre farm parcels make the ideal place to raise a few kids, a few cows, a few crops and a lifetime of memories.
Major City Centers
Bruce and Grey County are unique in that they offer the perfect combination of rural living and urban amenities. You can find all the essentials for comfortable living within a reasonable commute. On the eastern side of the county you will find Owen Sound and Collingwood. Both nestled along the coast of Lake Huron. These cities contain a wide variety of retail locations, including some unique family owned businesses and big box options.
Towards the county line you will find mid-sized towns such as Hanover, Shelburne and Mount Forest. These towns offer access to grocery stores, hardware stores, recreational facilities, childcare and schools.
On the far west side of Bruce County is Bruce Power- a large plant that produces 30% of Ontario’s power and currently employs 4000 residents. Just south of Bruce Power is one of Ontario’s best kept secrets- the beautiful beaches of Kincardine. Definitely worth checking out if you are considering Bruce county to be your next home.
